september beckons <3
hello, dear readers!
Wow—I can’t believe how quickly September snuck up on us like that. But it’s here all the same, and at least in Philly, the temperatures have started to cool. I can feel autumn lingering on the horizon.
And with autumn comes, of course, Beneath the Buried Sea. Just a reminder that pre-orders for the signed hardcover placed before Sept. 23 will include a double-sided character art print AND an exclusive extended epilogue you won’t find anywhere else! Allow me to tempt you with a snippet …
I mean, if that doesn’t convince you, truly idk what will. Grab your copy here! Beneath the Buried Sea will also be available on KU, and in e-book + paperback format, too — just not with the scene above :)
speaking of paperbacks …
If you want a physical copy of Beyond the Aching Door but can’t spend a ton, the flawed paperback sale just went live! These copies are signed and brand-new, but have some flaws from the manufacturing process. They’re 100% readable — it’s only cosmetic flaws. They’re $8 + shipping and you can grab ‘em here!
next month: ink & indie!
I’ll be in Chestertown, MD next month for the inagural Ink & Indie, a celebration of all things romantic and bookish. Romancelandia Bookstore is putting on this wonderful signing event where you’ll get to meet authors and connect with other readers. Plus, Chestertown is a super cute little town and definitely worth exploring! It’s been quite a few years since I’ve visited, but I always loved Twigs & Teacups and Play It Again Sam.
Grab your ticket here! They’re almost gone, so don’t delay.
things i’ve been loving
Bright Sword by Lev Grossman completely floored me. It’s the best piece of modern Arthuriana since Legendborn — and you probably already know how much I absolutely adore that book. Arthurian retellings are a dime a dozen, but Grossman manages to capture the spirit of the original tales while spinning something entirely new into existence. It’s about resiliency and survival; about creating your own family when the losses are too much to bear. It’s about letting go of the old world to forge a new one. Very rarely does the same book make me actually laugh out loud AND cry so hard my partner was worried something was wrong, lol. Bright Sword did that, folks.
The Consulate by Allison Carr-Waechter is the stylish, gritty modern fantasy-romance romp you’ve been craving. What can’t Allison do??? This standalone has major John Wick vibes and features a deadly immortal woman who is going to get her goddamn sword back at any cost. The love interest, Ares Necroline, is super broody, cold and controlled—but you’ll find out he’s a bit of a marshmallow on the inside. It’s like organized crime but with magic, and a super cool urban world with lots of rain, neon and danger. Also there’s a poltergeist who (sometimes) takes the form of a cat. His name is Stanley. He’s a menace and I love him lol.
On a different note, I feel obligated to inform you that Jooycee eyeshadows are amazing. I have Neon Black and Dreamcatcher, and it would be a lie to say I won’t probably own Firefly Tale at some point, lol. These are so shimmery and magical without being chalky or chunky. If you have seen me IRL lately and thought my eyeshadow was cool, it was probably Jooycee! It looks like faerie dust :)
that’s all for now <3
I’m off to continue drafting Holy Wrath, which I’m very excited about. I also have some things up my sleeve for The Fatebound Duology, and you’ll hear about that by the end of the year. (Which is creeping closer and closer!)
In the meantime, take care. And thank you for entering the worlds I’ve conjured. There is no such thing as an author without readers—so thank you for being mine <3
