the darkest night
merry winter solstice!
hello dear ones.
Wishing you a warm, cozy and merry winter solstice (and any other seasonal holidays you might celebrate!) I hope you’re able to carve out some rest and peace amid these dark days <3 Don’t forget the darkness can be our friend, too, even as we reach for the light.
My brother is home visiting for the first time in about six months, and there’s a local bar crawl with a very silly theme that I need to get dressed for, so I’ll keep this brief. I hope you, too, have loved ones and cozy drinks awaiting you.
If you need a last minute treat, there’s still Beyond the Aching Door boxes available at Pages & Playlists, as well as Fox & Wit special editions!
The official cover reveal for Between the Rival Courts and information on the ARC team will be coming early next year! I’ll also be writing to you soon about my upcoming Patreon, where you’ll be able to find exclusive art, a weekly AMA, threads on folklore research, and more.
But for now … rest. I’ll be on hiatus until early January <3
before i go, here’s some things i’ve enjoyed lately:
- I’ve been keeping my eye out for a leather journal cover for awhile, as I tend to carry around my planner plus a few other notebooks. I stumbled upon JHM Wood & Leather Crafts recently, and fell absolutely in love with her violet trifold. It’s even better in person, if you can believe it.
- We had our first snowfall of the season last week! It was the good stuff: about five inches of powdery snow that clung to all the branches and made everything look so magical, even after spending my whole life in the Northeast.
- One of my best friends finishing her SECOND degree!!!!
- Cuddling with my kitty on chilly winter days beside a flickering beeswax candle—like a lovely pool of golden light within December’s velvet dark.
- Crossing the halfway-ish mark on Between the Rival Courts; this book is going to be longer than my editor or I would prefer, I fear, lol.
- Finding the perfect little gifts from small makers and local businesses for my loved ones! Thank you, Paintbox Soapworks, Capricorn Books and Heirloom Home <3
- Reading As Many Souls As Stars by Natasha Siegel and The Flowers I Deserve by Tamara Jerée. Both were absolute sapphic perfection and featured tall, scary, powerful, intimidating women who made me go “ … mommy?”
- Sending out holiday cards with some pretty Rifle Paper envelope seals and this LNC stamp (she’s one of my favorite artists!) in this metallic ink.
that’s all for now.
Stay cozy and stay clever. Remember that winter always ends.
