yes, fine, i started a patreon
also: special editions and my next events!
hello, dearest ones
What a goddamn time to be alive. I wanted to send you a short note with a few quick updates, and also just let you know that yes, everything feels awful, and no, you’re not alone down in the muck and blood of it all. I would not write speculative fiction if I did not believe things could get better. If you’re in need of more words to fuel you, I really enjoyed Ijeoma Oluo’s latest Instagram post.
speaking of making things better
These folks need support after their family member was kidnapped by ICE. This family is local to me, and a trusted comrade is organizing this fund. Even a little bit can make a big difference. We take care of us <3
HOLY WRATH special edition
If you haven’t heard the news, Rainbow Crate is doing a GORGEOUS special edition for their April book box! Working with Rainbow Crate is an absolute dream come true and I am incredibly excited for you all to see the gorgeous book we created together. Though I can’t reveal it to you juuuust yet, trust me—it’s stunning and you want it. Check out the details here!
I’m being weird and unsettling somewhere new
Okay, I know, everyone and their mother is starting a Patreon. So scoff and roll your eyes at me, and then LOOK AT THE FUN STUFF I CAME UP WITH, OK??? I want to send you handwritten cards! Give you access to unhinged voice memos! Show you pretty art first! Do a weekly AMA thread with you! Sue me!!!!
For instance, have you wondered what book I’m working on once I finish up the Fated Quartet? well … u could find out …
upcoming events
I also wanted to let you know about my upcoming events because I’m always like, “oh, that’s so far away!” and then two minutes later, it is already here, and I forgot to tell anyone. So. Here you go.
BUCKS BOOKFEST | May 2nd
I will return to the lands of my youth (sort of) to partake in the Indie Alley at Bucks Bookfest this year! There’s a lot of really cool stuff at this event—bookish vendors, food, and a keynote speech with Tessa Bailey and Nisha Sharma!
BROWSEABOUT BOOKS | May 24th
I can’t wait to sign at Browseabout in Rehoboth Beach, DE! I’ve been visiting this bookshop since I was a little kid and always dreamed of seeing my books on the shelves. Well shit, folks, my books are already on the shelves AND now I get to sign there? I’m stoked.
MONTCO BOOK FEST | June 13th
I’ll be in my home county slinging books at the Montco Book Fest this June. I’m excited to meet some local readers and authors! I plan to have all my titles available for purchase and select merch.
things I have enjoyed lately
When we get a cool, crisp spring day and I can smell the budding leaves and feel the sun getting stronger.
That my horse has made two friends at his new barn, and they are very serious about staying in “oreo formation” at all times (see below.)
An extremely delightful mug my mother got me from Heirloom that looks like a speckled egg.
This gorgeous Market of Stars duster that combines unicorns and Arthuriana (LIKE HELLO???)
Speaking of unicorns, I am absolutely loving The Unicorn Hunters by Katherine Arden. I haven’t read something this transportive in awhile and am going to be sad when I finish it!
some books you might like
If you enjoy how much I torture you emotionally, I think you’ll very much enjoy my friend Jenessa Ren’s The Five Realms series. These epic fantasy retellings feel familiar but new, and pack a big emotional wallop.
Even when I was a bookseller, I was never very good at recommending anything feel-good, the committed yearner that I am. Luckily, Maisy has got you covered with this cozy romantasy series that feels like Stars Hollow!
that’s all for now
Thank you for the privilege of appearing in your inbox and on your bookshelves! I hope anything I’ve written is strong enough to help get you through the times ahead of us. Be brave and stay soft.
