hello, dear readers
Here in the States, we’re in the midst of a stressful election. I wrote about my thoughts a little bit here on Instagram—because books are political, just like all art and creative expressions. And because I’m a queer, disabled woman, so I’ve never known what it’s like to exist outside of politics.
lit for lebanon
Speaking of world affairs, I have my last author copy from the Fox & Wit special edition of Beyond the Aching Door available in the Lit for Lebanon auction! The winner also receives (if they’d like, of course) a virtual AMA/hangout with me for themselves and a friend.
You can bid here! Proceeds go to this fundraising effort, which supports displaced families in Lebanon.
selkie book club
Did you know I run an online book club for my shop, The Spiral Bookcase? We read all kinds of speculative fiction with a focus on queer, BIPOC and disabled authors. This month, we’ll be reading Lolly Willowes, a proto-feminist historical fiction set (mostly) in moody Northern England.
I’d love if you joined us! You can grab a ticket here, and see more details here.
for my fellow magpies
My dear friend Tiffany is running a generous giveaway for her jewelry brand, Wyther! A few of you have asked about my jewelry at signings and on social media, and some of my favorite, most-worn pieces are Wyther. You can check out the giveaway here, or just browse her work here.
a question for you
Like most authors, I’m always trying to plan for long-term sustainability of my career, which is a little more complicated as a disabled person with a lot of medical expenses and an inherent inability to girlboss, lol. This body ain’t grinding, folks.
So, and please be honest, it will not hurt my feelings: do you have any interest in a paid segment of my newsletter? It would be somewhere around $1-10 USD/month, or possibly have multiple tiers. In return, you’d receive (as an example) drafting snippets, subscriber-only bonus content, sneak peek of sketches for character art and book covers, first dibs on things like flawed books, new merch or special editions, and possibly more fun stuff like NSFW art.
OR, are there things you’d like that I didn’t mention? Let me know in the comments!
lastly, a spellbinding read
If you’re on the hunt for a super cool read that features a strong FMC like Raegan, plus tons of “fuck the patriarchy” vibes, be sure to check out Ghost Train! It’s an atmospheric historical fantasy—perfect for spooky season. (Which continues until late November, thank you very much.
that’s all for now
But the next time we speak, I think I’ll have some fun announcements for you, so be sure to stay tuned!
